POLICY RELATING TO ALUMNI AWARDS AT XLRI


The following document briefs the Alumni Awards at XLRI: the different types of awards,selection criteria for each type of award, the selection committee, as well as the administration of the awards.


I. For the purpose of Alumni Awards, an alumnus means a graduate of XLRI from a full-time program of six months or more; or part-time program of one year or more is considered an Alumnus of XLRI.


II. XLRI has six categories of Awards. From December 10th, 2013 it has been increased to six from four categories.


2.1 Life Time Achievement Award - (LAA)
2.2 Distinguished Alumnus Award – Practising Manager (DAA-P)
2.3 Distinguished Alumnus Award – Academician (DAA-A)
2.4 Distinguished Alumnus Award – Young Achiever (DAA-YA)
2.5 Distinguished Alumnus Award – Entrepreneur (DAA-E) – (New)
2.6 Distinguished Alumnus Award – Allied Fields (DAA-AF) – (New)


2.7 Selection criteria for Life Time Achievement Award (LAA)


2.7.1. A person considered for the award must have completed 35 years of service in the corporate, academics, NGO, Government or any other type of organization of repute after graduating from XLRI.

2.7.2. The contribution of the person must be well acknowledged by the organization and the segment of the society/sector that the person has worked for so far.

2.7.3. The person must have occupied a position of influence like the CEO, Director, Professor etc.

2.7.4. The person must be an active alumnus who champions the cause of the institute on all possible occasions. The contribution of the person in terms of time, resource and Chapter activities may also be considered during the selection process.

2.7.5. Awards received, if any, by the person may also be considered.


2.8 Selection criteria for Distinguished Alumnus Award – Practising Manager (DAA-P)


2.8.1. A person selected must have completed 20 years of service in the corporate, NGO,Government or any other type of organization of repute after graduating from XLRI.

2.8.2. The contribution of the person must be well acknowledged by the organization and the segment of the society/sector that the person has so far worked for.

2.8.3. The person must have occupied a position of influence like the CEO, Director, Head of the department, Divisional head etc.

2.8.4. The person must be active alumnus who champions the institute’s cause on all possible occasions. The contributions of the person in terms of time, resource and Chapter activities may be considered during the selection process.

2.8.5. Other awards received by the person so far may also be considered


2.9 Selection criteria for Distinguished Alumni Award–Academician (DAAA)

2.9.1. A person selected must have completed 15 years of service in the academic environment in the area of Teaching, Research, Publication etc. after graduating from XLRI.

2.9.2. The contribution of the person must be well acknowledged by the institutes/universities that the person worked for so far.

2.9.3. The person must have occupied a position of influence like the Director, Dean, Head of the department, title of Professor etc.

2.9.4. The person must be active alumnus who champions the institute’s cause on all possible occasions. The contribution of the person in terms of time, resource and Chapter activities may also be considered during the selection process.

2.9.5. Other awards received by the person so far may also be considered.

3.0 Selection criteria for Distinguished Alumnus Award – Young Achiever (DAA-YA)

3.1 A person selected must have completed a minimum of 5 years and not more than 15 years of service in the corporate, academics, NGO, Government or any other type of organizations of repute after graduating from XLRI.

3.2 The exceptional performance of the person must be well acknowledged by the organizations that he has worked for.

3.3 The person must have already occupied a position of influence like the team leader,
divisional or sectional Head or even the Department Head etc.

3.4 The person must be an active alumnus who champions the cause of the institute on all possible occasions. The contribution of the person in terms of time, resource and Chapter activities may be considered during the selection process.

3.5 Other awards received by the person so far may also be considered.



3.01 Selection criteria for Distinguished Alumnus Award – Entrepreneur (DAA-E)

3.1.1. The person selected must have been an XLRI alumnus for a long duration programme of 6 months and more.

3.1.2. He should have created a business enterprise of repute.

3.1.3. The `entrepreneur’ must have earned a reputation in India, abroad, or both.

3.1.4. The entrepreneur enterprise must be known for ethical practices and law abiding entity.

3.1.5. His enterprise must be profitable and running, and not a sick company.

3.1.6. The person must be an active alumnus who champions the institute’s cause on all possible occasions. The contribution of the person in terms of time, resource and Chapter activities may also be considered during the selection process.

3.2. Selection criteria for Distinguished Alumnus Award –Allied Fields (DAA-AF)

3.2.1 The primary purpose of this award is to acknowledge and reward the contribution of those alumni who may not qualify in the earlier categories, as they may be social workers, or have established themselves as artists, writers, or they may be senior government officials with more than 15yrs of service. The criteria for selection would be:

3.2.2. The work and contribution of the `individual’ should be widely known.

3.2.3. The person selected must be an alumnus of long duration programme (6 months and
more).

3.2.4. The person must have earned a reputation of `excellent professional’ in his chosen field.

3.2.5. The person must be an active alumnus who champions the institute’s cause on all possible occasions. The contributions of the person in terms of time, resource and Chapter activities may be considered during the selection process.


III. The Selection Committee

The selection committee for the above six categories of awards shall be constituted by the following:
3.1. The Ex-Officio Chairman of the selection committee shall be the Director of the institute.

3.2. The National President of the Alumni Association and Chapter President of the Jamshedpur Chapter shall be members of the selection committee
3.3. The Dean (Finance and Administration) of the institute shall be a member of the
committee.

3.4. The Chairperson, Alumni of the Institute shall be the secretary of the selection committee.

3.5. Alumni who are on the faculty, or any other faculty, chapter presidents or any other Alumni too may be invited to the selection committee by the Chairman of the Selection Committee.

3.6. The committee may take the help of alumni or any other professionals for the background check and verification of the contributions of the award recipients. The decision taken by the committee shall be final and may not be contested by alumni, faculty, students or well-wishers as these are honorary awards of the institute.

IV. Notification and Nomination for the Award

4.1. The awards for the Alumni shall be notified in the Alumni web portal.
4.2. Any Alumnus of XLRI can nominate a maximum of two persons for each of the category of awards.

4.3. The nomination should clearly indicate the rationale for the nomination

4.4. At least three nominations shall be received by the Selection Committee to accept the
nomination for the receipt of the award.

V. Communication of the award recipient for the year

5.1. The committee, in writing, shall communicate to the recipients of the awards at least 30 days before the award function.

5.2. The recipient’s acknowledgement and acceptance must be received in writing before their names are approved by the committee.

5.3. The awards may be differed if serious objections were received on background check or if the person does not reply or decline the award.

VI. The Award giving ceremony

6.1. All the above awards shall be presented to the selected persons during the Alumni Homecoming which is organized every year during the third week-end of November or in the annual convocation of XLRI.

6.2. The persons who are not present during the award ceremony shall not receive the award.

6.3 However, in exceptional cases, on the discretion of the Director, a separate award ceremony may be organized to give away the award.

VII. Withdrawal of Awards

7.1 Alumni award is given to acknowledge and recognize the professional contribution that the person has made in the area of his work and for championing the cause of the institute and society at large. However, any unworthy activity of the recipient of the award in word or in deed, which may be considered as unworthy of the Alumni of XLRI and/or the Alumni award, may lead to deprive the person of the award by the selection committee, and accordingly the award may be declared withdrawn from the person by the institute.

VIII. Document Amendment and implementation

8.1. The final authority to settle any dispute arising out of the ‘Policy relating to Alumni Awards at XLRI’ shall be the Director of the Institute. The Director, from time to time shall interpret and act up on the document. He has the authority to change any clause in the document from time to time without any prior notice to suit institute requirement and to meet the changed scenario.

8.2. This document ‘Policy relating to Alumni Awards at XLRI’ shall come into effect from Tuesday December 10th 2013.
